In this creative, interactive, and fun workshop, participants will have the opportunity to process and analyze the fascinating client-therapist dynamics depicted in popular cable and network TV shows. As we follow the therapist’s relationships with a variety of clients, as well as his own therapist, we will dissect issues including appropriate versus inappropriate boundaries, limit-setting, and the proper use of self-disclosure. We will also use these relationships to identify specific transferential and counter-transferential dynamics that can emerge in treatment and process how to navigate through the clinical dilemmas that are often created when these issues surface.
Participants will learn about deviations in the standard of care as outlined by COMAR and the NASW Code of Ethics. There will be many opportunities to weigh-in about and debate the ways in which the therapist in this series handles the ethical challenges that inevitably appear in session.
