Couple’s work can often feel overwhelming for clinicians. In spite of years of training in psychotherapy, the thought of having to manage the energy and the conflict of two people leads many therapists to run the other way. Imago Relationship Therapy provides the clinician with a new perspective into conceptualizing conflict as well as a clear structure for running a session. This allows the therapist to remain in control of the room and achieve phenomenal results.
This interactive training will help participants understand the theoretical underpinnings of Imago Relationship Therapy as well as the tools employed in a therapy session. Clinicians will learn how to better conceptualize the conflict that the couples is experiencing, and how to create enough safety to de-escalate the conflict and help the couple reconnect. Participants will also be exposed to the Imago Dialogue process and how it can be used to elicit more effective communication, understanding, and compassion.
Through lecture and interactive discussions, participants will explore Imago Theory and how it explains why couples originally chose each other and how that directly relates to their current conflict. Clinicians will learn how to explore the childhood influence in our relational style as well as a brain model which will explain how we respond when re-triggered by the past. Participants will be introduced to the Imago Dialogue as an effective tool to resolve conflict and foster connection and healing.
