(NEW) Exploring the Healing Gifts of Nature’s Garden: Using Sensory Experiences to Soothe and Ground Clients

September 25 Breakfast 8:15am-8:45am   Training 8:45am-4:00pm $169, 6 CEUs Presenter: Vivien B. Deitz, LCSW-C, MSW, BCD, RN Woodholme Country Club, 300 Woodholme Ave. Pikesville, MD 21208 United States + Google Map

There is a strong body of research confirming that direct contact with nature increases mental health and psychological and spiritual development. Benefits include stress reduction, a sense of coherence and belonging, improved self-confidence, self-discipline,  a sense of community and a sense of connectedness, meaning, and purpose.

The focus of this training will be on flowers and how the energy of flowers can help strengthen a client’s rituals for comfort and self-healing. This innovative, non-medication approach combines some of the most promising researched based clinical strategies. The focus of this training will be to explore and process three specific clinical strategies: Active Imagination, Deep Imagery and Guided Imagery. The integration and utilization of these strategies will offer a cohesive treatment guideline to help your clients achieve long-term regulation and stabilization.

These clinical strategies offer an integrative approach that go beyond treating one specific diagnosis.  This approach has been successfully used with clients struggling with the residue of trauma presenting as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, attention deficit hyperactivity, obsessive-compulsive issues, addiction disorders and Bi-Polar strategies. Clients experiencing stressful and/or traumatic transitions having to do with separation, loss and grief also benefit from these methodologies.  The flexibility and reliability of these clinical strategies can be adapted for many different situations and individuals struggling with trauma residue. The benefits result in a soothing, comforting and grounding effect providing internal and external safe spaces for clients.

Packed with tools, tips and handouts, the emphasis on this integrative and holistic approach will give you practical techniques including how to motivate your clients to make necessary lifestyle changes for self-regulation; significantly decrease destructive behavior, including self-harm and suicide; create custom, realistic treatment plans that cater to your clients strengths; identify symptoms and patterns that preceded the presenting problem. The clinical strategies offered in this training give clients more control over their own minds, bodies and lives thus creating a new narrative that emerges from trusting their own inner wisdom.

In the words of renowned naturalist and essayist John Burroughs (1837-1921), “I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”
