In this workshop we will discuss the importance of helping clients reconnect with and believe in their own inner wisdom. We’ll focus on how to help clients (and ourselves) overcome obstacles and fear, reduce co-dependency, live more in the present moment, give permission to grow and change, and increase positive self-talk and self-compassion. We’ll explore specific positive mantras, invitations to re-evaluate self-statements that are no longer useful, and how to create opportunities to try on new behaviors. Examples from actual clients will shed additional light on the negative impact of not embracing these affirming and compassionate ideas and then what changed for them, cognitively and behaviorally, when they found the courage to embrace them.
Woven into the training will be many opportunities for participants to experience the benefits and the power of journaling. We will explore a variety of experientials and writing prompts that clinicians can bring back to their clients to help jumpstart forward movement both in and outside of therapy sessions. Participants are encouraged to have a notebook and pen on hand for the journey.
