(NEW) Online Training – Working with Transgender Youth and Their Families

May 27 Login to Zoom 8:30am ; Training 8:45am-12:00pm (EDT) $99, 3 CEUs Presenter: Timothy Elliott, LCSW-C Zoom.us, MD + Google Map

A recent study of adolescents across the United States indicated roughly 2% of middle and high school students self-identify as transgender or gender expansive. As young people are feeling safer in openly sharing their identities, we are also seeing an uptick in the politicizing of gender identity and expression in the USA – demonstrated by a 700% increase from 2018 to 2021 in anti-transgender state legislations introduced specifically targeting youth (ACLU). With the pressures of the global pandemic, gender expansive youth and families are showing up in therapy spaces in higher levels of distress, lower ability to function, and limited resources to help them navigate safely.

Pulling from research and this clinician’s first-hand experience, this workshop will provide a foundational perspective for all clinicians working with youth and families. It will delve into some of the more complex questions and explore specific strategies for helping young people find their gender joy and families move from distress to attunement. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and experiences into this collaborative learning environment. Time will be provided for discussion.
