All of us hold a myriad of identities, including a sexual orientation and gender identity. This discussion-based workshop will explore how mental health clinicians can better support their clients living in the margins of these identities. We will examine lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or questioning (LGBTQ) concepts and terminology through the lens of cultural humility. The workshop will highlight social and health disparities faced by the LGBTQ community and examine specific supportive factors. Clinicians will explore strategies for helping their clients navigate experiences of non-acceptance, family rejection, and discrimination. The discussion will also provide an overview of resources, both for the clinician and their clients, in helping all people live their true and authentic selves. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and experiences in to this collaborative learning environment. Time will be provided for discussion.

The presenter was knowledgeable and attuned to the needs of the clinicians who came to learn. I would highly recommend this workshop!" ― Julia Greene, LCPC

"Very informative workshop led by a facilitator who was genuinely open, inviting of questions and gave helpful details. He stated he was Rogerian and he walked his talk as he encouraged us to be our authentic, fluid selves." ― Nancy Moonstarr, PhD
