Recent research demonstrates that expanding awareness and acceptance of the felt experience of the body is a primary goal of effective therapy. By helping clients learn how to identify, track and sit with difficult feelings we provide them with a blueprint for effectively negotiating life’s challenges. With practice, as the client’s ability to tolerate somatic experience expands, they become more able to stay present, engaged and aware of their needs in challenging situations. As a result, clients develop a higher degree of resilience and experience a greater sense of confidence, self-compassion and vitality.
In this workshop you’ll learn and practice trauma sensitive techniques for helping clients move safely into somatic awareness and understand and gently expand their Window of Tolerance. Tools will include deep relaxation and breathing practices, guided visualization, art interventions and moving meditation practices. All tools can modified to meet individual client needs. Concepts that we’ll explore include the faux window of tolerance, hyper and hypo arousal, movement, breath and qi for regulation and self-soothing, interoception, tracking, somatic expansion and grounding. Please wear comfortable clothing and dress in layers. Bring a yoga mat and a light blanket and small pillow or cushion if desired.
