Robyn Brickel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of Brickel and Associates, LLC in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. Her practice provides a safe, therapeutic environment for recovery from trauma, dissociation, addictions, challenged family systems, and mood disorders including maternal mental health issues. She is also a professional educator, therapist consultant, and community volunteer.
Robyn is deeply committed to clinical practice, professional education and better public awareness of mental health issues. Robyn Brickel earned her Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fairfield University in 1997 and has pursued numerous postgraduate advanced certificates and trainings in trauma, dissociation, and addictions, as well as relational therapy models (see the full list of Robyn’s trainings and post graduate certifications at www.brickelandassociates.com). Robyn practices a strengths-based, trauma informed, and systemic approach to therapy and consultation. She works with individuals (both adolescents and adults), couples, families, and groups. She provides clinical consultation to other therapists, is an EMDRIA Certified therapist and Approved Consultant and is a workshop presenter and speaks to school and parent groups about mental health risks facing people today.
Because so many mental health issues emerge in adolescence (with roots in childhood), she places special focus on support for teens, their parents and families, and professionals who work with them. Her insights on teen substance abuse and parenting appear in interviews in The Washington Post, and Washington Parent magazine.
