Workshop Description:

Developing an awareness of felt sensation and increasing the ability to be present within a spectrum of felt experiences are essential to emotional wellbeing. When combined with the opening of the heart and self-compassion, mountains move. By helping clients learn how to stay present with difficult felt sensation we provide them with the key for effectively negotiating life’s challenges. With practice, as the client’s ability for tolerance expands, they are more able to stay present, curious, and aware of their needs even in the most challenging situations. As a result, clients develop resilience and experience a greater sense of confidence, compassion, vitality, and joy.

In this workshop you’ll learn and practice trauma sensitive techniques for helping clients move safely into felt sensation so that they can understand and begin to master skills for expanding their Window of Tolerance. Tools will include deep relaxation and breathing practices, guided visualization, art interventions and moving meditation practices. All tools can modified to meet individual client needs. Concepts that we’ll explore include modulating ANS states, breath, the movement of qi for regulation and self-soothing, opening essential acupuncture points. somatic tracking, expansion, and grounding. Please wear comfortable clothing and dress in layers. Bring a yoga mat and a light blanket and small pillow or cushion if desired.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain and implement how to create a safe therapeutic environment for felt sensation work.

2. Identify specific stages of readiness for felt sensation practices.

3. Describe how to adjust felt sensation practices to align with client’s stage of readiness.

4. Identify and implement 3 trauma-sensitive felt sensation practices.

5. Learn how to increase compassion for felt experience and how to use this in our work with clients.
