Workshop Description:

This workshop is designed as an introduction to modern attachment theory and clinical applications to be practiced and utilized in treatment settings. Participants will receive an overview of attachment theory, including early attachment research of John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth, and Mary Main. This enables participants to gain a greater understanding of the development of Attachment theory through its observation of parent-child interactions.

Methods from Somatic Attachment Therapy will then be introduced, including experiential resourcing and orienting exercises that create safety and embodied location of participants. Participants will also be provided with video material of enactments of attachment strategies and opportunity to discuss and review observations for purposes of integrating the material. Finally, participants will have opportunity for Q & A as well as review of reflective questions from the presentation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the  origins of attachment theory.

2. Identify the four main attachment strategies including Secure/Insecure strategies.

3. Explain and implement  Somatic Attachment Therapy techniques including resourcing and orienting.

4. Identify the Three Modes of Regulation.

5. Identify attachment strategies through observation of attachment enactments.
